Information on our speaker:

Debbie Hanna from Alzheimer’s Texas will lead a discussion on The Healthy Brain Initiative, which improves understanding of brain health as a central part of public health practice. The initiative creates and supports partnerships, collects and reports data, increases awareness of brain health, supports populations with a high burden of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

Debbie Hanna is the principal of MDS2 a nonprofit consulting organization serving charities in the State of Texas.

Since 2002 Debbie has been involved in funding and general support for projects relating to Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological disorders.  She serves as organizing President of the Darrell K Royal Research Fund for Alzheimer’s Disease www.DKRFund.org  which has distributed over $6M in private neurological research grants to Texas medical schools and universities.  Appointed by Governor Rick Perry and continued by Governor Greg Abbott, she recently completed service of 13 years as Chair of the Texas Council on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders supervising the Texas Alzheimer’s Research and Care Consortium www.txalzresearch.org.  Through her position on the Texas Council, she led the effort to secure and distribute over $70M in research funds to the TARCC member medical schools. (the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, University of Texas Medical Houston, University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, University of Texas at Austin, UTSW, Texas A&M University, Texas Tech Health Science Center, University of North Texas Health Sciences Center, Baylor College of Medicine, and UT Rio Grande Valley)

An active volunteer, Debbie holds and has held many positions on a variety of local and state boards, commissions, and committees among them the  Texas Permanent School Fund Investment Advisory Committee, University of Houston System Board of Regents (Chair), Committee of Governing Boards (Vice Chair), Texas A & M Real Estate Research Center (Chair).

Debbie is married to Austin attorney Mark Hanna.  They have 1 son, an attorney active in energy trading in Houston, Texas.
